Lady Eagles bow to UST, 66-72

The Ateneo Lady Eagles lost for the third time this season, this time against the UST Tigresses, 72-66, Sunday at the Philsports Arena.

The Lady Eagles led comfortably in the first canto, 18-12, but were outscored 60-48 the rest of the way. In the pivotal third quarter, the Tigresses outscored the Lady Eagles 23-13.

The Lady Eagles still managed to hold on to the lead at the half, 37-35, but the Tigresses came out on fire in the third quarter. They shot 47% from the field while holding the Lady Eagles to just 30.8%.

Rebounds and turnovers were once again the story for the Lady Eagles. The Tigresses corralled 60 boards to the Lady Eagles 52, but more important were the 29 offensive rebounds by the UST squad, compared to 18 by the Lady Eagles.

The Lady Eagles also committed 23 turnovers, which the Tigresses converted into 19 points.

Unfortunately for the Lady Eagles, the Tigresses were able to control the boards better, leading to 19 second chance points for them.

With the loss, the Lady Eagles’ record drop to 2-3.

Sarah Mercado led all scorers with 18 points, while Angelina Morales and Therese Estrada contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively.
