Badminton teams dominate in Sunday matches

In a repeat of last week’s games, both Men’s and Women’s Badminton blanked their respective opponents, 5-0, August 28, Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall.

Antonino Gadi drew first blood yesterday as he beat Salvador Kapunan in the first singles match. Sublime as always, Gadi won in straight games, 21-6 and 21-7. In the second singles match, Justin Natividad found himself behind early as he dropped the first game to Kit Cajefe, 17-21. He leveled the score at 1 a piece, winning the second game 21-16. The third game was tightly contested as neither players refuse to lose. Natividad eventually won 21-19.

Patrick Natividad and Paolo Sunga teamed up for the first doubles game, battling it out against Salvador Kapunan and Rjay Ormila. They won the first game 21-9 but slipped in the second game 19-21. They got it together to win the third game 21-14. The second doubles match took a similar route to the first. Antonino Gadi and Justin Natividad appeared headed to win the match easily as they won the first game in dominating fashion 21-9. UST’s Patricque Magnaye and Renz Vivas gutted out a win in the second game, 19-21. In the third game, the Ateneo duo took no chances as they won resoundingly, 21-4.

Patrick Natividad rounded out the matches for the Blue Eagles against Rjay Ormilla. There would be no drama here as he quickly dispatched his opponent in the straight games, 21-16 and 21-17.

In the afternoon matches, the Lady Eagles were all business as they dispatched their UST counterparts without losing a single game.

Lisa Encarnacion got the ball rolling for the Lady Eagles, beating Danica Llamas 21-13 and 21-9. Up next was rookie Gelita Castilo. She dispatched Lovely Rose Talplacido 21-4 and 21-13.

In the first doubles match, Dia Magno and Suchika Kumar won against Lovely Grace Ladi and Irish Pasion, 21-5 and 21-10. The second doubles match featured Gelita Castilo and Jaimee Calacday versus Llamas and Talplacido. The final score was 21-12 and 21-12.

In the final match of the day, Paula Filart defeated Lea Mangoba with a score of 21-15 and 21-10.

With yesterday’s results the Blue Eagles end the eliminations with a record of 5-2 while the Lady Eagles sport a record of 6-1. Final 4 matches will be played on September 10.
