Ateneo de Manila University

The Ateneo de Manila University is a Filipino, Jesuit and Catholic educational institution. The Ateneo’s primary mission is the pursuit of truth and its transmission to and the holistic formation of the students under its care. The University is committed to form men and women who are spiritually mature, academically excellent, socially responsible and culturally rooted. This is achieved through a combination of classroom instruction and learning and co- and extra-curricular activities designed to enrich the individual’s overall formation.

Athletics is one of the avenues of formation; it has been proven throughout generations that athletics is an effective tool not just for developing physical prowess but for developing leadership and character as well.

University Athletics Office

The University Athletics Office manages and supports all the Ateneo de Manila University’s accredited athletic teams, from the Preschool thru to the Loyola Schools.
The offices of the University Athletics are housed in the historic Blue Eagle Gym on Ateneo’s Loyola Heights Campus.

Vision

Fostering integrity in academic and athletic excellence as a service to the community, the University Athletics Office aims to develop student-athletes who embrace the Ignatian spirit of leadership, generosity, and magis; and who become role models for the Filipino youth – all for the greater glory of God.

Mission

In its pursuit to realize the vision governing Ateneo Sports, the University Athletics Office seeks to engage in:

  1. Promoting character development in student-athletes, including cooperation, teamwork, leadership and loyalty; molding student- athletes into becoming role-models of the community; fostering Jesuit values in the total development of the student-athletes through sports.
  2. Promoting academic achievement, engagement in university community life, and leadership development as needs in developing well-rounded student-athletes.
  3. Setting high standards for winning in interscholastic and national level competitions thereby enhancing visibility and prestige of the university through sports.
  4. Creating an integrated sports program involving the elementary, secondary, and tertiary units of the University for identification, training and development.
  5. Providing modern, scientifically valid training methods, facilities and equipment in the development and training of its student-athletes; and
  6. Facilitating the process of determining the role-models from the student-athletes who are to act as centrepieces for socialization in the university community.

College Athletics Office

The College Athletics Office works with the University Athletics Office in managing and supporting both UAAP and non-UAAP college varsity teams, as well as other student-athlete concerns. The Loyola Schools fields UAAP teams in athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, chess, fencing, football, judo, lawn tennis, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, and beach volleyball. Fielded in non-UAAP competitions are teams for arnis, bowling, golf, rowing, and shooting as well as basketball and football. The Blue Babble Battalion, the Ateneo’s cheering contingent, is also under the College Athletics Office. The Athletics Council, a group of student-athletes who represent the various varsity teams in the University, is also under the auspices of the College Athletics Office.

The offices of the College Athletics are in the Loyola Schools Physical Education Complex near the College Covered Courts.

Mission

The College Athletics Office strives to provide an environment supportive of the values formation, character development and athletic prowess of varsity athletes in their pursuit of excellence through student-led, administrative-enabled, athletic-related activities.
