With the dream of making history by bringing home the UAAP Men’s Volleyball crown to Katipunan for the first time now within reach, the Blue Eagles will have to come out all out and all heart in Game 2. Game 2 of the championship series between the Eagles and Bulldogs is scheduled on Saturday, March 7 (2PM) at the Mall of Asia Arena.

BASEBALL: UP FIGHTING MAROONS HANDS ATENEO FIRST LOSS

Despite its sure bid into the Season 77 University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Baseball Finals, the Blue Eagles dropped its first loss of the season to the hot bats of the University of the Philippines (UP). A walk-off in the bottom of the 9th inning raised the Fighting Maroons above the Blue Eagles with the final score being 8-9.

HOW SWEEP IT IS—Returning back to the championships after a historic Cinderella run last year, the Ateneo Lady Eagles clinched the outright Finals berth, firing past their arch rivals – the De La Salle University (DLSU) Lady Archers in four thrilling sets to complete a sweep of the elimination rounds in their rematch, last Wednesday, February 18 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

A spike from de Jesus that apparently went wide sent the fans in frenzy as the Warriors found themselves within set point, 21-24. Playing together as one team, this did not rattled the blue and white as de Jesus and Ahomiro went on to spike the ball over the net and bring their team to within one, 24-all. At the end of the day, it was the Lady Eagles’ resiliency that saw them through what was an almost impossible and completely amazing comeback, 26-24.

BLUE EAGLES EDGE TAMARAWS

EYEING THE semifinal bonus of a twice-to-beat advantage, the Ateneo Blue Eagles overcame a sluggish start to add another victory to the team’s winning streak, prevailing over the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws, 17-25, 25-17, 25-17, and 27-25, in their rematch, held Saturday, February 14 at the San Juan Arena.

BLUE EAGLES SWEEP FIRST ROUND OF UAAP BASEBALL

In a gritty ballgame featuring a rematch of last season’s finals between Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University, the Blue Eagles came out on top earning a sweep of the first round of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Baseball Tournament. Thanks to the Blue Eagles’ offensive execution and the outstanding performance of their rookie pitcher, Ateneo ended the game with a 4-1 win and a clean slate heading into the second round.

BLUE EAGLES STRIKE MAROONS, REMAIN AT SOLO NO.1

Now sporting a 9-2 record in the men’s volleyball tournament, the Blue Eagles clinched the first Final Four berth alongside the solo lead in the team standings after emerging victorious against UP. After finishing off the desperate Maroons, the Eagles’ next assignment is against the spikers from the Far Eastern University (FEU) on Saturday, February 14 (8AM) at the San Juan Arena.
